EDEA'S
BACKPIECE
The back piece was another challenge for me. It needed to be
light to walk around in, but it is also a
large piece of the costume. I took wooden dowels and laid them
out in groups of four, two thicker dowels
on the outside and two thinner dowels on the inside. I then made
a small wooden base so I could wood
glue the dowels to it.

When that was complete, I used
white foam core and drew out the designs for the
spikes and the middle pieces of the back piece. I then cut them
out with an exacto knife. All the pieces
where then glued to the back piece and then spray painted. For
transporting, I cut off the spikes so I could
fit the main piece in my truck, having to re-attach them at the
convention. To keep the back piece on me,
I glued two black elastic straps to create a “backpack.” Since it
was a little wobbly, I glued a strap to go
around my waist for more support.
